Phht to critics. It's your blog and your life - post what's important to you. It was an honest and interesting post and that's more than lots of bloggers can manage.

More power to you!

and am i the only one who always reads it as the 'Pesky' file?

Hi Gorgeous! So I read this post before that of the day before and I have a couple things I want to say. I love this post, and agree that the answers are ridiculously interesting! I might even steal it and post it myself someday soon!

But as for the post below, I thought it was lovely to read such an outpouring of emotion. Thank you.

I too constantly question the utility of academic bullshit for the seriously fucked up problems of the world, and wonder whether I am truly living my life as part of the solution. I am happy though. And I want to tell you that life at the end of the pesky tunnel can be wonderful, and it can make you happy. But it does not have to be in academia. And if it is in academia, it doesn't have to be useless either. We make choices.

You have made choices to be where you are today and you have wonderful reason to be proud of those choices. I don't know your past, it's true, but I know it helped shape who you are today, and I like that person! I believe in her. And I don't think she should worry about what happens at the end of the tunnel - because I know it opens into a spectacular view! xxx

Oh so right! Iwas an academic and while I hoped to have some influence on those I sent into the world, I saw my job as trying to help people turn theory into practice, and to try to make sense of the world - I may have changed one person at a time, but I'm fairly syre I didn't change the world - maybe I encouraged them not to take it all too seriusly!! (I was teaching management end HR after all!!)
