tragic update

less than half an hour later and this is all that remains of my first and last toe up sock attempt:

i tried frogging back to where i needed to start the gusset-in-reverse and stitches dropped off everywhere and it was all going pear shaped so i just frogged the whole thing.

i cant believe i just frogged a sock i have spent over a week on.

is this the first SSS disaster?

excuse me while i put my head on my desk here and weep quietly.

How froggin' annoying!! Poor chicken, go top down from now on hey!!

Can't believe you have not checked out the facebook! I took a long time to be convinced to try it but J got sick of me asking to see friends' photos through his account. Be warned though, it is an addictive little monster!

Oh you poor thing! I think it's better to start again with something you are going to happy with. Remember you still had to make another sock with the technique you didn't like!

oh dear... :( i am having flash-backs to reasons for my dislike of toe-ups and short-row heels...
and it ain't the first disaster. i got to the gusset decreases on my cashmere socks before realising the recipient did not have elephantitis of the foot and would therfor probably swim in them... not quite the same thing as i only had to frog half of it.. but cruddy anyway.
cheer up :)

Never mind, chick. Just remember you've still got that whole ball of pretty, pretty sock yarn, and now you can zoom ahead with a technique you know and are comfortable with. :)

Cripes! Let's call that yarn Lazarus and hope for a resurrection that is better than ever. :)

Oh noes :( At least with yarn you CAN just unravel it, and start again... very annoying to have to pull everything out though!

noooooooooooooo! That sucks! But at least you gave it a go, hey. And the yarn is still pretty pretty pretty.

what a horror, its like a personal insult when you have to frog, especially when you know in theory what you are doing. So far I have not done much of the first toe up, I'll "fess up" in a week or so when its either half done, or redone as top down. Cheers chick,

Oh sweetie, darling....have strength. Is there another way to do heels on toe-ups?

DrK said...

there are other ways to do heels and i did try the one as suggested in knitty's widdershins but it involves an increase in the pattern before you actually get to the heel, so i had to go back a way and then i dropped heaps of stitches and then i threw a tanty and we know how that ends up! i have gone back to top down in a new pattern and am slowly regaining my composure!!

Oh wow. You know, I have serious Toe Up Anxiety. You're not helping me.

hehehe. the toe part was ok once i worked through the cast on a few times and i liked it up to the heel, i would recommend one with something other than a short row heel unless you have really fine yarn or are really good at purling three together through the backs of loops! i dont have the finesse or patience for that!

I'm also knitting toe up socks with short row shaped heels - the heels have tiny holes, I can live with those, but the massive holes where the leg and heel rejoin took quite a bit of fiddling and picking up stitches to resolve!

As for frogging, I recently frogged an 80% completed Clapotis so I can truly sympathise!!
